5 Lifestyle Changes to Help Improve Overall Health

Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, staying on top of your health can feel like a monumental undertaking, if not an impossible feat. Between your work, home, and social life, you might feel as if there aren’t enough hours in the day to adequately focus on you. But that’s not true! I’ve learned that if I let my own busy schedule take the reins, I’ll never find any me time. That’s why it’s imperative to be proactive, committed, and focused on creating those gaps in the day where you can work on improving your overall health.

Seek Solitude in Nature

Nature is my haven, my happy place. It can be your place of refuge, too. I encourage you to seek out nature whenever you can to simply get away from your static routine and silence the noise. Even if you can only get away for a few days, you’ll be amazed by how refreshed and rejuvenated a backcountry camping trip will leave you. The healing properties of a night spent beneath stars, in fresh air, has no bounds.

Better yet, make nature a hobby and pick up some rock-climbing equipment. By investing in the activity, you’ll be further motivated to seek the great outdoors, therein improving your health.

Drink Less

Have you looked down and wondered where that big belly came from? The most likely culprit is alcohol. Although there’s a time and a place for a trip to a brewery or winery, consider cutting back on how much and how often you drink.

Alcohol is not only filled with calories and sugar but can also have severe negative long-term consequences on your health, especially to your liver and cardiovascular system. You want a six pack again? Then alcohol has to fall to the wayside. Consider giving it up for a month. You’ll be amazed by the surplus of energy that comes with the abstinence. If you’re out at lunch or dinner, order a sparkling water instead. Better yet, avoid going out as much to save money and eat healthy at home.

Track Your Aura

We forget how important it is for our body, mind, and spirit to be in harmony. Because these things are intangible, it can be tricky to monitor and balance your chakra. Recently, though, great strides have been made with aura photography camera technology. By using 3D imaging, you can measure, chart, display, and analyze your chakra and energy output and then strategize ways to balance your chi, so to speak.

Exercise Every Single Day

Do you want to live a long and healthy life? Then you need to commit to daily exercise. This means raising your heart rate for at least 30-45 minutes per day. There are a variety of activities you could take up, including:

  • Hiking
  • Running
  • Swimming
  • Yoga
  • Biking
  • CrossFit
  • Weight lifting
  • Joining an adult rec sports league

Whatever you settle on, daily exercise has numerous benefits to your overall health, especially to your heart, muscles, and mental health. If you’ve lived a relatively sedentary life, it may be hard at first. However, once you make it a habit, you’ll discover how happy and accomplished you feel after a heart-pounding, sweat-inducing workout. Soon, it becomes a healthy addiction.

Become a Dog Owner

If loneliness is something you struggle with, consider getting a furry companion to help lift your spirits. What I love about dogs is that they’ll love you no matter what. Even if you’ve had a bad day or did something you regret, your pup will lavish you with attention and affection. Numerous studies show that owning a dog can contribute to your overall health in several ways, including:

  • Decreased risk of depression and suicide
  • Lowered levels of stress
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Lessened blood pressure

In addition, daily walks give you an easy excuse to get out of your home and exercise. Although it’s a big responsibility, becoming a dog owner is absolutely worth it. Just ask a dog owner!

One Step at a Time

If you feel like you’re in a rut, there are simple lifestyle changes you can make to help improve your overall health. Self-care is incredibly important, and it starts by merely acknowledging that you want to make some changes in your life. By being purposeful, pointed, and taking initiative, you can take control of your future and improve your overall health.
